Tired of wasting your time typing away using the on-screen keyboard for the Playstation 3? Sick of online games starting before you can finish writing distasteful and competitive remarks in the lobby screen? It seems that there may finally be a formidable solution. Can Logitech’s latest quell your woes? PCN reviews the Cordless MediaBoard for the Playstation 3.
The first thing that will swing in your favor with the MediaBoard is how light it is. It may not be as hollow and lightweight as the SIXAXIS, but it can be tossed around amongst friends with ease, which is great, should you and a few friends wish to mutually get in on hazing other online players. The MediaBoard will also work from approximately 30 feet away since it is completely wire free and uses a USB connected device to connect directly to your Playstation, so you will not have to go through the trouble of registering a Bluetooth device. Also, the USB insert is very miniscule and poses as little if not any problem at all.
Another great thing about the Logitech MediaBoard is that it has an integrated touchpad to the right of the keys. You won’t have to go through the trouble of finding a mouse for your PS3 thanks to this very beneficial pad. This is a fantastic addition to the MediaBoard considering the Playstation 3 has a web browser and a XMB (Cross Media Bar) to scroll through. So now you can search the web and navigate through your XMB without using the D pad or right analog stick of your SIXAXIS controller. Its sensitivity is just right so you wont have any problems with slipping the ridicule past a desired location either. Below the touchpad are two buttons, posing as right and left clickers found on a mouse so you will not have to use the X button on the SIXAXIS. Basically the MediaBoard is a keyboard and a mouse in one comfortable and easily accessible package giving you the benefit of not having to use the SIXAXIS or separate mouse for browsing the web.
Now on to the problems, but don’t worry, they are very minor, if not entirely excusable, issues. The first of which is the MediaBoard’s appearance. Although it sports a stylish integrated touchpad and lightweight design, it looks like a computer keyboard. It seems a bit dull and would have quite done well with a black on black color scheme. The MediaBoard has a gray on black color scheme however, resembling nothing like the actual Playstation 3. It would have been great to have a matching console and keyboard. Simply put, it just looks like it is not meant for the Playstation 3, but rather a cordless keyboard for a computer.
