The Godfather: Don’s Edition is one of those games which can be looked at in many lights. In one regard the game is a fairly fun experience and something which all fans of the Godfather should surely check out at some point. On the other hand though, it is also the same game pretty much that was released on the PlayStation 2 over a year ago, with the same visuals as well. The developers over at EA Redwood Shores really did put a solid effort into this title as it packs a great deal of additions over the previous versions of the game which have appeared on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360.
The Godfather: Don’s Edition puts you in the role of a character which you create right at the start of the game. The player creation mode truly allows you to create just about any type of character you want and you should take your time with it as you will be spending quite a bit of time as that character. From here on out you are dropped into a story with some of the most famous characters from the Godfather series including the man himself.
The game allows you to mold your character in a sense in an RPG like situation where you can go the path of either an Enforcer or an Operator. Either way you choose, you will be able to pick up skills along the way which can give you access to different types of weaponry for your arsenal as well as the ability to do more things in games such as have mobs help protect you and such. For any fan of the series seeing and hearing the characters move and react in the game is a true treat as they are represented both on a visual and voice-over level extremely well.
The actual game play and controls is an aspect of the game where The Godfather can truly go to work on the PlayStation 3. The controls are very similar to that of the previous versions of the game with the majority of the controls being tied to the analog sticks. The developers did go the extra mile to try and incorporate SIXAXIS controls which is what we are going to focus on here, banking on the fact that at this point you have at least played some version of the game. The motion-sensing controls allow for some cool additions to the game. You can use the controller to sway back and forth in a left to right motion in order to push or shove your enemy in the game. Another cool move which can be done with the motion-sensing is in the form of upward thrusts with the controller causing you to give a head-butt to your opponent.
