Review - SuperCar Challenge Review: SuperCar Challenge Most Realistic Console Sim
Posted on October 9, 2009 by Shak

There are a few different modes to choose from in the game. The Tutorial (as described above), Quick Race, Arcade, SuperCar Challenge. and Tournament mode. All of these are relatively self-explanatory except for SuperCar Challenge mode, which allows you to race around the world while taking on various challenges. A new addition to the racing is a Race Points system, which gives you points for completing challenges and races. As you accumulate these points, they allow you to unlock more cars and tracks in the game.

Directly comparing this game to Gran Turismo doesn't really do it justice. By the numbers, Gran Turismo wins, but SuperCar Challenge isn't about having more cars or tracks than another game. For this reason, it has around 44 supercars, including favorites such as the Bugatti Veyron and Aston Martin DBR9, and around 23 race tracks, including the infamous Nürburgring and Silverstone circuit. To be honest, the game isn't as graphically impressive as the bigger franchises of GT and Forza, but it still manages to look very good. SuperCar Challenge also boasts a true HD resolution, running at 1080p with almost no framerate issues—a big plus for HD gamers and a relief to fans of its predecessor. Unlike Gran Turismo, SuperCar Challenge does have damage modeling, and while it doesn't affect the handling of the car you will get disqualified from a race if the damage exceeds 75%. It is also worth noting that SuperCar Challenge is definitely an improvement over Ferrari Challenge in almost every aspect from physics to graphics.

SuperCar Challenge includes the same online mode as Ferarri Challenge, supporting 16-player LAN and online with in-game chat. So you can take your car online and race with other simulation racing fans, but you want to customize your car first, right? Well, you'll be happy to know that there is a livery (or vinyl) creation tool available, which gives you a lot of ways to customize the look of your vehicle. One thing I find slightly disappointing, however, is that internal modifications can't be made to the cars—although if you did really own a supercar I suppose you wouldn't be very likely to change its internals.

In short, SuperCar Challenge is a game for fans of the simulation genre and should not be missed, although it does offer a lot of options which allow less experienced gamers to play. SuperCar Challenge has one of the best simulation experiences available, even rivaling racings sims that are available on PC. The game supports a variety of racing wheels, so be sure to pick this game up if you're a fan of realistic racing!

SuperCar Challenge looks great, but in comparison to larger franchises it falls slightly short.
Racing sound effects, engine effects, and crashing sound very realistic, and sound almost like the real thing. Crowd effects, however, seem to be repetitive with no real reaction.
This is a very subjective area - true racing sim fans will love the realism and difficulty of the gameplay, but arcade fans will not.
Replay Value
The main game will last you a relatively long time, but if you do manage to finish it you can always go online.
SuperCar Challenge is not for everyone, but fans of Ferrari Challenge and sim racing in general will love this game.
