Here, you are given multiple commands as to what attacks you will need to engage in. There is, unfortunately, one slight problem to this mode. It seems the developers used arcade style buttons when they show the series of buttons you have to press in order to use the displayed combo. So the buttons they use are not the face buttons of your average Playstation controller. Fortunately, the displayed buttons are color coded. For example, if they want you to press X, they will display the arcade button in blue, O in red, and so on. If you haven’t memorized the color coding for the SIXAXIS face buttons, then you may encounter slight difficulties in this training mode since it requires quick and decisive button mashing. We strongly suggest that you only enter the free training mode to avoid any frustration that you will most likely encounter in the command training. We also strongly suggest that everyone try out at least all of the characters since the learning curve is roughly 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Practicing is essential considering there are many characters with unique fighting styles that can be beneficial to any players liking. Also, the controls are actually quite easy using the SIXAXIS, even if there is a lack of proper introduction to the fighting mechanics. So thankfully, you won’t necessarily have to go out and buy an arcade stick via USB port.

Another aspect of the game that is obviously included in any fighting game is a Versus arena. Here, you can take on a friend (should you have one) and fight to the death. All you need is an extra SIXAXIS and get ready to immerse yourselves in the world of VF5. You can select any character and map right from the beginning. Its easy, fast, and most importantly, fun to see how you stack up against your friend and to obtain the ultimate bragging rights.

The last three areas to explore from the main menu are VF TV, Customize, and Options. The options screen is not necessarily considered a mode, but VF TV and Customizing are certainly worth pointing out. In VF TV, you are allowed to view replays, exhibition matches, and clips from the movie theater. Under the replay menu, you can watch your previous battles, if you saved them, to show and intimidate your friends with. Under the exhibition matches, you can watch two characters, that you pick, fight it out until only one is left standing. This is a fun option to consider, should you be looking to bet money with friends on the outcome of the match. Nothing is more intriguing than betting on a computer generated character with you buddies. Finally, the customization menu allows you to alter the appearance, ring name, and other data for your character and profile.
