Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

The way in which all of the weapons work is that everything is pretty much upgradeable throughout.  This adds an RPG-like element to the game as the more you collect, the more you will be able to upgrade to more powerful and destructive weapons.

The balance between action and platforming has been done very nicely.  The past Ratchet and Clank games has focused more on the action than the platforming, and that remains true here.  Still though Insomniac has done a nice job of combining the two in a balance which will appeal to the masses, more specifically, fans of both action and platformers. The boss battles are also extremely unique and inventive.

Adding onto the variety is the fact that the lengthy game, which took me personally around 16 hours to play through the first time, going slowly by the way, can be played through many times with equal enjoyment.  The game has a challenge mode option as well as other secrets and unlockables which will have you wanting to play through this more than once.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

The only complaints about Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction are with the A.I.  Playing through the game, it seemed a bit too easy throughout as rarely did I feel in danger of being killed.  The other complaint is the fact that the game is not presented in 1080p.  This is a minor annoyance but for a next-gen system that is supposed to support 1080p on all games, it is a bit disappointing that Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 does not do so.  Online multiplayer would have also been appreciated, but that can wait for the next installment in PS3.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is just what the doctor ordered for the Sony PS3 this holiday season.  Insomniac, for two years in a row now, has given gamers a reason to own a PS3 through the holiday season.  Last year they brought Resistance, and this year they bring us Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction.  The quality of the action and platforming, excellent story and voice-work, as well as downright addictive and enjoyable game play, make this a must buy for any PS3 owner.  This is the PS3 game to own this holiday season!
