Rock Band is a true social gaming experience, as everybody wants to try out an individual instrument to see where they excel at. When you do find your instrument and work together with your band mates resulting in a 5 star score its immensely satisfying.

All this teamwork also applies in the actual game itself. Everybody has their own overdrive meter in the game to fill up. You want a huge increase in your score then have everybody unleash it at the same time. Or you can store it and use it later for even more points. Let’s say your drummer fail his note chart well he can be rescued up to 3 times as long as somebody has an over drive meter that’s at least half full. There definitely is an element of strategy involved. Don’t forget about the big rock endings, after the initial note chart has ended everybody can just go nuts and freestyle on the mic, lead and bass guitars and the drums. Just don’t miss the final note after otherwise you’ll lose all those you just gained.

Now what good is a music game if you can’t get more music? The DLC content in Rock Band just absolutely annihilates what Guitar Hero III has to offer. Every week since release there has been 3 new songs are available to download via the PSN. Because Harmonix has MTV behind it a good chunk of these are master tracks. Tracks from Metallica, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, The Police, Weezer, Oasis the list goes on. What’s even better is that full albums are coming very soon for download you will be enjoying Rock Band for a very long time. I’ve already spent at least 30 dollars on the DLC content and plan to spend more. Individual songs go for about 2 dollars where band packs of three songs are 5 dollars. Because MTV has access to so much music you can be sure that every week somebody will find something to their liking. I’m crossing my fingers for tracks by The Roots. Rock Band is a perfect example of where DLC works and should be encouraged.

Graphics and Sound

Now one doesn’t look at a music game like Rock Band for its visuals but this game is no slouch either. The different venues you play on are very detailed and have plenty of characteristics that differentiate them from others. You’ll be playing in major cites around the world each with its own distinct venues, crowds and more.
