The enemy death animations are pretty cool and they react depending on where they hit, but I have seen a few visual glitches and some odd animation transition here and there. The game does look nice on HDTV sets, very little aliasing and it has a nice sharp look.
The sound doesn’t really fair any better. The weapons in particular lack that “oomph” that make feel like “damn this shot gun is powerful” The game does make good for those of you with surround sound setups. But again you don’t feel like you’re in a war zone surrounded by enemies with bullets flying by your head every 2 seconds. It’s too subdued and calm.
Conclusion
The Club is perfect for those of you who need to be 1st on the leaderboards and want the highest score possible. You can play through stages quickly and get better each time. The result is that you are rewarded for the higher scores with additional weapons and stages. The developers created this really great idea in concept but it doesn’t deliver in the end. Again if you have a need for the high scores there really isn’t much to go back to when you’re done. Had they made the game more crazy and insane to match the ridiculousness that is the games setting then the tone of this review would have been different. I feel the game is too casual for something that’s trying to be edgy, hopefully if there is a sequel the game ditches the realism and cool factor and just goes batshit insane because then it would work much better.
| 8.0 | Graphics Great level design, descent character models and animation. Nothing really stands out though. |
| 7.5 | Sound It’s almost as if every weapon has a silencer on it, makes good use of surround sound setups though. |
| 6.0 | Gameplay Gameplay is slow and lethargic, takes itself too seriously. It’s heaven for you high score freaks out there. Good combo system that takes skill to master. |
| 5.0 | Replay Value You’ll breeze through the main game in a few hours, multiplayer is alright but you’ll come back only if you want keep increasing your high score. |
| 6.6 | Overall This games needs to be less serious and much more intense. It just feels too slow and calm for the setting. Its fun for short periods of time but its hard to recommend as a full priced game. |
