The new attacks come from the Renbu system being added in. Basically what this system does is it links special attacks to the length of the combo you get to keep going. Basically, the higher your combo, the more impressive-looking your attacks will get over time. This works well for a while, but this still does not add much depth to the fact that you are still pretty much just whacking one button at a time.
The game is not all that shallow though, as Dynasty Warriors 6 still provides a great deal of fun. You have the ability to level up your character’s campaign, which allows for some replay value over time.
The two main game modes include Musou and Free Mode. The only difference between the two really is that Free Mode allows you to go back and replay battles over and over with characters you unlock during the game. You can help build up character levels this way as well, which can add depth.
One big omission I would love to see in a future Dynasty Warriors release is co-op online multiplayer. It has local co-op, but online co-op would be a huge addition in the next iteration of the game.
In terms of visuals, the game does run into a lot of problems on the PS3. Dynasty Warriors 6 on the PS3 suffers from a great deal of pop-in as well as frame rate problems. This is absolutely inexcusable when you see games such as Heavenly Sword and others running on the console.
