Another major highlight with the visuals though is the replays which are stellar. If the game could look as good as it does in the replays it could be one of the prettiest next-gen sports games yet.

The saving grace with MLB 07 The Show and the aspect which makes it superior to MLB 2K7 is the fact that the game play is near perfect. If ever there were a truth to the expression that great game play can overshadow lacking visuals then it is the case here with MLB 07 The Show.

The pitching interface is extremely effective as it is simple yet complex at the same time. You handle the pitching by aiming and them pressing your bitch corresponding to the proper button. You can then throw it as hard or as soft as you would like thanks to the pitching meter which shows up once the pitch begins.

The batting interface is also just as simple as the pitching once you get the hang of it. You have the option of a contact swing with the X button, a power swing with the square button, and a bunt with the O button. If you want to make things a bit complex you have the ability to guess what pitch and where the pitcher is going to throw the ball before the pitch is thrown. If you guess correctly you will be notified in the game and it will allow you to crank the ball if timed properly. Another great feature is that after each pitch you can pull up a little information bar at the bottom corner of the screen notifying you if you were early or late on the swing and what kind of pitch it was, etc.

Fielding is highly complimented via the great animations in the game. You can turn on or off whether you want help with the fielding, base running, etc. This is all up to you but to be quite honest fielding in The Show is one of the most enjoyable things to do in the game. The way in which you can slide to get the ball and turn a double play looks so fluid, smooth, and downright fun that it is satisfying and never feels like a chore.

Another fun addition is the SIXAXIS controls which were implemented into the game. These are used in the field and while base running. In the field when activated you can use the SIXAXIS motion controls to dive or jump for balls to make a big play. The same can be said about base running as you can slide into bases by pointing the controller down or forward and in certain directions depending on which way you want to slide. These are great little additions which work rather precisely to say the least. It is much more fun sliding with the motion controls than using the analog stick or having the AI do it for you.

Speaking of the AI, the AI featured in The Show is fairly solid. It is not perfect and something which should surely be addressed but for the most part the AI stays on task. The only time it runs into trouble is times when there are base runners on the bases. The AI may make a mistake as to when it should try to turn a double play or which base they want to make the play to. Considering this isn’t little league these are plays which the AI should definitely know and be able to pick up on so that is something which should be addressed.
