The game play is a lot of repetition throughout as you go from ground to air repeatedly just demolishing enemies as you flail your SIXAXIS controller around in the air. If this sounds like fun then pick this game up immediately, otherwise just stay away as the dragon really is not as nice as it looks in the pictures.
The other big issue with Lair is that it lacks depth as there is no multiplayer anywhere to be found, just a shallow single-player mode. The only hint of an online mode is the online leaderboards which allow you to compare your stats against other games around the world. So basically you can compare your stats with the other few who had to suffer through this experience along with you. At least you will know that you are not alone.
Lair is the victim of a game which was simply over-hyped. The expectations for this title from Factor 5 were through the roof and for good reason as well since Sony put a lot of advertising behind it. Factor 5’s track record with the Rogue Squadron series also gave it a lot of promise as well. It is not known truly if Sony forced Factor 5 to make gamers exclusively use the SIXAXIS motion controls to fly or not, but that was definitely the deciding factor in being turned away from this one. The visuals are a next-gen experience even though they are repetitive with the visual areas. The audio is also very solid with a great musical score and voiceover work. All it needed was the game play, and if a game is not fun to play, it simply is not a good game.
| 8.0 | Graphics Lair is a very pretty game with great character models and models on the dragons. There are framerate problems though and the variety of level design gets repetitive. |
| 8.0 | Sound The voiceover work as well as the musical score are extremely well done but the sound effects do little to make you feel like you are flying a massive dragon. |
| 5.5 | Gameplay The SIXAXIS motion controls and repetitive gameplay seal the fate of Lair as the game simply is not fun. |
| 5.0 | Replay Value You will not play a game for very long if it is not fun, and there is not enough content with no multiplayer aspect to give you any reason to keep it on your shelf. |
| 6.0 | Overall "All it needed was the game play, and if a game is not fun to play, it simply is not a good game." |
