how big are usually theatre screens? now thats big

PS3FreeK 31-03-2007 11:48 PM

I wanted to get a projector and have my basement wall as a screen, it was pretty big, I think it would have been like 100" inches, but projectors cost too much!

puggy 01-04-2007 12:31 AM

yes they do...but that would be awesome

MattZani 01-04-2007 12:29 PM

they're around ?700 for a good HD one now.

i only have a 40", and hopefull a 26" in my room...

puggy 01-04-2007 03:08 PM

only a 40" thats still pretty big...not huge

juicyjuice107 01-04-2007 10:48 PM

im getting a 37 inch sharp 1080p tele when i get 1400$

puggy 01-04-2007 11:00 PM

dang 1080p...atleast ps3 supports it :) which is nice

MattZani 02-04-2007 01:25 PM

the HD TV i'll get will be 1080i, don't need 1080p for a 26", and most games don't support it anyway!

kingofgrills 02-04-2007 01:53 PM

I've got a new Sony 50" KDS Grand Wega 50A2000 rear projector with 1080p, and the PS3 looks incredible with it for games and Blu-ray playback. Heck, even games in 720P look flawless too! If you go much bigger than that you start seeing picture flaws, unless your viewing distance is further than 11 feet or so.

For those of you looking in the US, it's a great TV to get. I got it online for just $1,720, and that included free delivery.

MattZani 02-04-2007 05:18 PM

the RP Tv's are great, may be diffucult with screen burn, but the picture is superb! the only bad thing is that they're big, and don't look as sharp as an LCD in the corner.

kingofgrills 02-04-2007 05:48 PM

Actually, the new digital rear projectors such as mine are not subject to screen burn. That was a problem with the old traditional CRT based designs. The new Sonys such as mine are extraordinarily vibrant and sharp, and it has a wide viewing angle of 172 degrees. I also have a great 32" LCD widescreen flat panel that is 720P/1080i, and the larger Sony shows more vibrancy and detail.

With the current TVs today plasmas are subject to burn in, so avoid those if at all possible for game play. For flat panel displays, LCDs are recommended for gaming, while digital rear projectors such as the LCos or DLP variety are recommended.

MattZani 02-04-2007 05:58 PM

i read in the PS3 manual that LCD's didn't get screen burn! i wondered why because that was the thing people worried about!

kingofgrills 02-04-2007 06:23 PM

Plasmas will suffer burn-in, but LCDs will not.

Also, Plasmas generate a lot of heat and use a lot of energy too. A friend of mine bought a nice looking Pioneer 42" plasma about 10 months ago. He never use it for gaming, but it up and died on him just after Christmas. He was in the other room, heard a loud "pop!" and came in to find it dead. The power light was still on, but the TV was toast.

Apparently, my friend was told by the repair shop that plasma TVs do not do well at higher elevations. With thinner air, plasmas will generate intense heat and may burn out prematurely. That will probably not affect most of you, but anyone living in or around Denver should be aware of that. My friend lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the elevation is almost 7,000 feet above sea level.

puggy 02-04-2007 07:32 PM

yeah i knew plasmas suffer burn in...but lcds i did not really know. but tthat elevation thing is....interesting never heard of that...very useful

MattZani 03-04-2007 06:59 AM

it won't affect me, the sea's at the edge of my town!
