I don't really see the point..I mean I just got my system in March, so my system is still pretty new and works completely fine, so I don't see the need to spend another $300 and something to get a system that is lighter
also, I don't like the look of the new ones and I love the way the old ones look

I don't know if you can call it an upgrade. I have PS2 emulation on my 80GB Motorstorm SKU PS3. Also 4 USB ports, and Memory Card Reader. I already upgraded my 80GB HDD to a 320GB 7200rpm HDD. Slim does come with a 120GB HDD but no PS2 support are memory card reader. Weather I use them or not it still features the Slim doesn't have.

I must agree with Glen, it's a downgrade for me as well since I have an identical model PlayStation 3 so why give up one of the only console models to have PS2 support just to say I have the, at least in my opinion, uglier PlayStation 3 Slim.

i upgraded! :) i had the 60gb model which i got in 2007, its warranty had ran out so i thought i was best to exchange for a slim, but i got to trade the 60gb model towards it so it cost me like ?60, im quite happy with it too! its not just lighter, its also quieter and uses less power so more gaming/cheaper electricity bills lol :D

slim PS3s use less power, I didn't know that, it makes sense though

but it doesn't really affect me, i don't pay for my electricity
I can play as much games as I want and the school pays for electricity but too bad I don't have a lot of time to play games though

The electricity savings are negligible unless you leave your console on a lot and I mean a lot, so dropping a 60GB PlayStation 3 for a slim 120GB is the biggest downgrade of all since you're losing one of the only models with almost near perfect PS2 compatibility, card readers, 4 USB ports, Linux installation, etc.

well i never used the card readers or more than 2 usbs, never interested in installing linux either, so to me the only thing i lost was ps2 backwards compatability, im still happy with the slim though :)

I have an original launch day 60 gig PS3 that I upgraded with a 250 gb hard drive. I'll never give it up, because of PS2 backward compatibility and Super Audio CD playback. I'll probably end up getting a newer slim at some point to act as a 2nd Blu-ray player in my den. The original PS3 will remain in the home theater room.

Getting a shiny one from ColorWare still doesn't change the main fact why so many of us here will not "upgrade" to the slim (plus a ColorWare model requires you to buy it straight from them if you want a decent warranty left on your console because if send yours in, you void your Sony warranty and they only guarantee the system for 30 days where if you buy it from them you can buy an extended warranty or they replace the standard Sony warranty with their own 1 year but then you can't take advantage of deals and discounts other stores might offer), the fact remains even discarding the looks, the lack of PS2 compatibility along with no card readers and less USB ports just makes buying a slim pointless if you already have an older model, of course if you have a newer model of the "fat" console without these abilities then by all means the slim is an upgrade but to be honest the slim isn' as bad looking in person at least to me, even with the matte finish plus that doesn't attract fingerprints and dust, my current model is a magnet to this stuff.

I'd call it more of a sidestep than an upgrade
