Build a laptop?

I know nowadays its best to build your home pc yourself, as its often cheaper and more custamizable. But do you ever think we'll be able to build our own laptops or will we be stuck with the manufacturing we have?

Do you mean build it yourself as actually doing it yourself or having the site do it for you? There are many sites that do it for you, but they colst like 3000 dollars and stuff like that.

Well I just wondered if you could maybe buy an empty laptop that just had the screen in it, then you just add all the bits you want, like if you wanted a dvd burning drive you could add one in or a huge amount of ram, etc.

exactly, ive never seen myself blank cases for laptops, and parts etc. It would be waaaaaay to expensive man. For laptops you dont need to build, you can trust the big companies, they have good laptops. I have a toshiba, and its great, ive had it for like 2 years now and its running perfectly. Sony is good also but overpriced. Go ofr toshiba and Centrino processor. You cant go wrong.

Yea, laptops are much more complex than regular desktops in how they use a battery the parts sizes and all the other crap.

When you buy a laptop they say to get as much in it is as possible, like stock it up to the best of the best because they are so hard to add things to. The only thing i've heard of adding to it was ram, and that wasn't even that easy. And also the only way to add hard drive space would be to replace the existing one or just get an external which wouldn't be as convenient because it is a laptop.

You're better off getting a laptop from a company like Dell, since they have warranties and all. Now, I've built desktops before, but that is because it's cheaper to do that. Building laptops is obviously more expensive than buying a laptop with the same parts, needless to say where you would find the specific parts (especially high-end ones). The companies get the parts cheaper, they make a profit, too, but it's just cheaper for you (and I guess, better) to buy the laptop instead.

But if you aren't looking for that stuff, I suggest looking for people who are selling innards.

I don't do much more laptop hardware customization other than replacing ram, a hard drive, or an disc drive. The rest is too complicated, small, and proprietary for me to even mess with.
