PS3 Getting Performance Boost In New Model

Sony may be trying to make some improvements to the performance of the PS3 by putting in a 7200rpm hard drive instead of the original 5400rpm hard drive to improve PS3 load times, downloads, etc.

Noise shouldn't be too bad. If it is, just turn up the surround sound and all will be well.

some guy on the main story said he didnt want to "hack" his ps3, just to make sure everyone knows, the ps3 warranty allows for the hdd to be changed. but that is all.

anyone here tried a sataII (3.0gb/s) hdd?

Ps3 wont support Sata2, only Sata, so its no point trying.

i talked about this minutely in my blog, but i want to reiterate it and try and figure out what is going on here. this is what i am refering to:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/pro...mentus_5400.4/

and this is why.

notice 3 things, under applications it says "gaming systems", that it is a 300 mb/s or 3 gb/s (SATAII) hdd, and that is isnt just a normal hdd (hard drive disk), but a magnetic perpendicular recording one. i would imagine there will be a line of 7200 rpm drives available as well. so far i have just found a release date of fall 2007, but not a specific month.

so my question would be, does the ps3 support sataII hdds, and does anyone actually know 100% for sure if it does (meaning they have done it on thier own ps3). i emailed sony a few days back and was told:

anything would help, thanks everyone.
