Looming Tomb Raider Reboot, Anyone still even care?

Some shots of an alleged reboot of the tomb raider franchise has surfaced.
The franchise has lost some of its luster throughout the years and I suppose eidos's new squareenix overlords feel a reboot may improve its reception.

Adding to the legitimacy of the news is eidos's lawyers having contacted joystiq and getting the pics taken down. BUT, here they are for PS3center member eyes

This one reads,
Quote:
When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island's past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

[...]

? Origin story. "This new Tomb Raider concept reboots the franchise by exploring the origins of Lara Croft's transformation into a hardened adventurer as you unravel the story behind the island's mysterious past."
So a new look ay? Personally, I say a broken down car with a new coat of paint is still a broken down car

Am I the only one that thinks this looks awesome? If I wanted similar game to the originals I would play uncharted. I can't wait to see some game play.

Well considering how well the past games have gone over, and this being the day and age of political correctness and idiots like Jack Thompson and Hilary Clinton breathing down game companies necks, it's not surprising they would tone down Laura, even though they are shooting for an M rating. Although if it turns out being a half-decent game, it might get the attention it deserves, there's obviously still an audience out there otherwise why bother continuing a series which has been almost beaten to submission.

I loved Underworld, Uncharted had the story, but i Loved Underworld too. There is occasional monsters but nothing like this. I think its just ripping off the idea of Uncharted to be honest....SPOILER In Uncharted the island is haunted and it created monsters? Same concept here, the island is haunted and its creating monsters....Im sure Laura will find the treasure there too.

thanks for ruining it for me DUSTIN gosh now i wont even get Uncharted :( lol no jk but i will prob still pick it up and play it

@X_Racer
yea i guess that makes sense i mean there are more and more politicians coming out against games now which really doesnt make sense to me but w/e. I wish they would have made them bigger just to shove it in their face. i really want some retail chain to come out and say they will stock AO games so that people will not try and hold stuff back like in GoW III the publishers were saying they had to keep checking with the ESRB people to make sure that everything was ok to put in the game also on that note if like GoW III did get an AO rating just sell it on their site or soemthing and i sure it would sell just fine.

The game is two years old ! lol but i did say spoiler, but its not really a big spoiler at all just you wont pee your pants like i did.

Also if it is cus of all the nonsense, come on you saying we havent seen worse than Laura big boobs and nice body? That being a crime then Megan Fox shouldnt be aloud to be in movies anymore...Ever play a Japanese game? Thsoe characters are practically naked.

As for AO i personally wouldnt buy it, i already have a tough time buying R movies because i dont want to watch a 2 hour long porno. If its AO for violence then it will end up just like movies, a single gun in the game auto gets AO...M would be extinct.

Some companies are also willing to take more risks and go against these idiots, Rockstar is an example of a publisher that will stand up to those idiots but they have the budget to do so and the time to make Thompson look like an idiot, a lot of smaller publishers and developers don't, so they give in to Thompson and Hilary Clinton so they go away since they are like parasites, you think you got rid of them for good, and then they appear back again.

I don't know if any of you saw it but on Showtime they have a show called "Bull****" which is done by Penn & Teller. They recently had the topic of "violent video games" and debunked the fact that is a corilation between violent video games and teen violence (or any other violence). They had Jack Thompson on there and Hilary Clinton talking about violent video games. Then they showed 2 Harvard professors that have studied and documented that there is no relation between violent video games acts of violence twards people.

What a surprise but many gamers already knew that Thompson is a quack who pretty much dis-proven himself and destroyed and credibility he might have had with some of his claims and evidence that he has used. Unfortunately, the rest of the public hasn't noticed this so they still listen to his lying propaganda and while Clinton isn't in nearly the same league, no one can beat Thompson at being stupid, it's not like she's got the scientific evidence to back up her claims.

Knowing him he will claim it's because it's the best Blu-Ray player around, plus how would he come up with his dumb points unless he actually plays the games, I'm surprised there aren't other game systems lying around his house, or maybe he stores them in a closet so they don't show up in photos like this one.

LOL "but but...but its my blu-ray player! I promise!"

However what i find funny is if you ever read these studies in depth (ive done several papers on the violent game relations) they all show that games make kids violent during the game. What they do is find a way to frustrate the hell out of the player to see what he does. I saw one where they made a game the player had no chance to beat and another they would occasionaly make a loud noise then zap him in the hand, wasnt like a brutal zap just made it uncomfortable.

Of course things like that are going to annoy you, your getting frustrated. However it DOESNT have a lasting effect, the minute you put the controller down your fine. Its not like we are gonna go kill a thousand people because some noob is cheating in Battlefield and spawn camping us with a sniper....

Much as he wants up to believe that, why do you think he said the shooter in the Virginia Tech massacre trained on Counterstrike, which by his definition is a murder simulator, just because they found a copy in his room, turns out he barely played video games at all, let alone Counterstrike. Hopefully one day it will sink in to people, someone who was disbarred from practicing law in Florida, which definitely doesn't happen often, isn't someone you should be listening to about violence in video games.
