PS3 sales increase post E3 showcase

Seems that the high price of admission may not always win when compelling
content is available

Quote:
Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 increased at retailer Amazon.com over the weekend following a strong showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

On Sun., the PS3 160GB SKU held a 95 percent increase in sales to rank at No. 183 in Amazon's Video Games division.

New titles showcased last week include Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War III.

Additionally, the company demonstrated the PSP Go, a new 16GB handheld to hold all digital content.

The product will be sold for $249 on Oct. 1.

Amazon.com in Apr. restocked the backwards compatible PS3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack.

Released in June 2008, the MGS4 Pack includes software-based backwards compatibility to Playstation 2 titles.

The PS3 sold 124,000 units in Apr. U.S. sales.

I was gonna buy the new PSP Go till i heard the price and did a double take to make sure i heard it correctlly. Instead ill take that 250 and but the new Zune, wait for PSP Go second generation which i gurentee will be hold at least 30GB of memory....The Zune is half the size of a PSP and holds 80 to 160 GB depending on your purchase, you tell me they cant fit that same hard drive in the bulk of a PSP?

After todays announcements of the pricepoints on the new iphones, I would hope Sony will reconsider the pricing on the GO, as for the memory, is the psp using flash memory, the Zune is probably using a standard HD

I dont know what the Zune uses, i dont see why Sony cant just switch it over. I just hope Sony doesnt turn into Apple, every 3 months "NEW PSP! BUY IT! With its very very slight tweeks and adjustments..."

switching to a more traditional hard drive with moving parts would lead to higher battery consumption and the possibility of scratched hard disks

Zunes been working fine for years and playing music, especially shuffling 4 thousand songs constantly, means its constantly reading from the hard drive. PSP would need to do it occasionly to load something then thats really it, unless your playing a movie or something. I think Zune is flash based too im not sure though.

running software that only displays song names and art is less battery intensive than having to render 3-d models and terrain

it woudl definately be cheaper for them to put a smal 2.5 Sata drive in teh PSP GO but i think that that would be bigger than what is in there now

Wonder if the new motion controller has captured the interest of some? Although with the price still at the point it's at, I don't see this being a long term increase.

I would say the Uncharted 2 demo peaked a lot of interest, that demo visually was just on a level of its own

The console is doing fine, no its not going strong like 360 (in our area) but its doing fine. Look at UK and Japan and Sony has nothing to worry about. This recession ends and they will be doing just as well here. Would suck if they go ahead and drop it 100 bucks, then 2 months later economy picks up again.

If the slim does what it should do to warrant a redesign, that is lower production cost, Im all for making the system more available with a lower price

i woudl say that the PS3 is doing just fine i mean the only reason that the 360 has sold more is because it is release a year earlier. look at this chart showing sales from day one

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?con...=All&weeks=168

so even at the higher price the PS3 can still sell more on a year by year basis than the 360
