Rumor: Sony Has A "Megaton Announcement" In The Works For E3

With so many big titles already known, what else could sony possibly have
up it's sleeve that can qualify as a MEGATON?

1up.com's sources say

Quote:
Sony has been quite the leaky ship, to say the least. Nevertheless, it's managed to keep what our source calls a "MEGATON ANNOUNCEMENT" (yes, they used all caps) under wraps to this point, something that's apparently so big that Sony personnel have been "agog" since hearing about it.

We've done our best to get more details, but all we've gotten is a, "Let's just say that Sony has been such a leaky ship that the fact that they've managed to keep this hidden blows my mind," type of response.

Sounds juicy. Our source remains tight-lipped, but we're guessing that this "megaton" will be making its debut at E3. We'll kick off speculation with, "Final Fantasy VII remake confirmed," and let you go from there.
If it is a software announcement Sony personnel being left shocked would suggest that it's likely not to be a sequel to something they already have
on their system, a la a Resistance 3 or a Warhawk 2.

The only things I could consider being worthy of a megaton label would be
Sony securing a deal with Epic for gears of war 3 (MS only had a exclusivity
deal for the first 2 games), MGS once again remaining a PS3 exclusive or as
1up suggested, that Final Fantasy 7 remake.

As always with rumors of this nature, aim high but no so high that the fall will
kill you.

E3 cant come soon enough, let the speculation begin!

It could be so many things man.

-MEGATON for some people could be merely a counter to Microsoft. Like Halo going to PS3 or whatever their name is making a ps3 game, to me that isnt MEGATON because i dont care about the game and wouldn't buy it.

-However since it has the staff in shock, it can't be that it has to be something that Sony is excited over. Maybe a new type of game? But idk if staff goes bonkers over that? IT would have to be some type of feature to the PS3 or some type of news like that.

Like i said there are so many things that come to mind. E3 is gonna be huge though, sony seriously has alot of guns this year. I cant wait for Insomniacs speech and Kojima! You dont just leak all your info before E3, so obviously sony still has tons of stuff to show. You leak little things to et people interested and pumped up, so things are gonna be even bigger next week!

Well, I agree with Dustin for the most part. E3 will definitely be huge this year, at least for Sony. So many features, secrets, etc have been leaked this year (the majority which were most likely on purpose) but a big company like Sony doesn't spill all the beans before a big show like E3. There is definitely something up their sleeves, and I can't wait for E3 to see it.
To be honest, if Sony managed to obtain a license for Gears 3, I wouldn't consider buying an Xbox 360 anymore, because that series is the only reason I really want to get one. However, I can't see them sinking a deal like that, no matter how beneficial (and it would be VERY beneficial) it is.

For an announcement that kept Sony themselves in awe, you gotta thing bigger than gaming software. Maybe a new feature for PS3. Maybe they sunk a deal with a TV company like M$, maybe they grabbed something bigger? Any idea who Microsoft's biggest industry rival is? Exactly. Sony could have in fact sunk a deal with Apple that could blow everyone out of the water. Apple product support? iTunes integration? All of this is possble, however unlikely it may be, but we need to think big if this announcement is really as big as they say.

Sony and Apple, sends chills down my spine yet excites me somehow lol. Itunes though, thats just a plain fear haha i cannot stand that program at all. If its on PS3 it might be easier to use so that might be differnt, i just cant stand it on PC.

I think gears is more possible than we may think, gears sold 6 million on the 360 alone, I'm sure they are aware that they can sell at least another 2 million on the ps3.

We got Unreal Tournament 3 early + more features since XBL restricted the user generated content portion of the game they wanted.

I know if I worked for sony and heard that arguably the Xbox's top 3rd party franchise
was going to be coming to our black box, I'd be surprised.

I feel like this is going to be a hardware rather than software related announcement if it's true. It seems like Sony has already been trickling out all their info about upcoming games, I'm not seeing any major surprises there. I'm thinking this might be that motion controller doohickey.

I think motion control will be coming but I wouldnt consider it a megaton, its something anyone who follows the industry sees coming.

the leaked rumor concept makes the motion controller look very similar to the Wiimote, I'll try and find the link to the pic

I honestly hope the motion sticks do not become mainstream to the point of having to use them. Ive played the wii and sure its cool AT TIMES, sitting there and using them contantly it not something iever want to do. Half the time im playing games before bed, or laying around, i dont want to be up flailing my arms all over the place. Thats why i like sony's six axis instead, its cool feature, but its not something ever game requires you to use.

I just cant see motion control being commercially successful on the 360 or PS3.

Yeah either console isnt for casual gamers, and thats why the wii can do it succesfully. PS3 would be far from it. However like i said if its a feature that is special here and there, sure ill give it a go.

Personally i think "motion controlled" and Sixaxis are two differnt things, just like i said in my last post. Plus the "motion controlled" camera is just another PlayStation Eye, Sony has had that for ever now, and its not mainstream either. Its just a side feature that casual gamers will enjoy, things like that wont effect us.

i dunno, the tech MS was showing off looked pretty deep... alot more advanced than the PSeye. we'll see after e3 i guess

I still dont think it matters. PS Eye wasnt popular because its a casual gamer thing, it still sells pretty well to casual gamers. Its just like the wii, you could come up with amazing motion controls, but its still casual gamers that will enjoy it. I personally dont want to be up flailing my arms around in the air just to play Killzone, i want to sit and relax. Occasionaly, sure ill get up and play a round of bowlin with my sixaxis, but not all the time.

Its like TV making you run laps to run your favorite show, you dont want to do it, you just want to sit back and watch House.
