The End of the UMD?

I was thinking recently (rare, i know. lol) about the PSP and the situation it's in. The UMD was originally pushed as a strong media format to buy movies and tv shows on. By this point we can all safely say that it has utterly failed at that. Now even the amount of games coming out on UMD has slowed, and the number of PSP games on PSN has skyrocketed in the past few months. Do you know why? Sony has actually been pushing developers to release their PSP games on the PSN over the UMD. Know that large memory cards have gotten so cheap I personally would rather have my game library on hand at anytime without having to sort through UMDs. What do you think about this?

With the new PSP 3000 it is. Not with any older models though (PSP Slim and Light or Phat).
The only (soon to be) exception is the up and coming shooter Resistance Retrobution. The developers created a new link between the two pieces of hardware that not only allows you to play the PSP through the PS3, but also use your DualShock 3 controller. We will probably see a lot more of this in games to come.
