Playstation 3 Stress Tested, Found Virtually Unbreakable

With all the coverage of how the Xbox 360s are failing left and right in the past few months, there hasn't been much coverage of how sturdy the PS3 is. PS3 Vault took a PS3 into harsh environments, continuously using it for 108 hours with various games and Blu-ray movies. Their findings? The PS3 is pretty much indestructible.

The guys did three tests, one at room temperature, one down at 0 degrees F (below zero), and one at 120F. Besides slight condensation on the cord in the cold and a burning smell in the heat, the PS3 actually held up perfectly fine. It went back to a working environment and plays just like normal.

The PS3 suddenly became "the hunger that never dies..." (Watch Star Trek to know what I mean...)

All I can say is that I'm glad I waited to buy the PS3 as my "next gen" console. Those test results are rather reassuring to me. Besides Dish HD for broadcast service, the PS3 provides all of the entertainment in my home theater room - all my PS games, Blu-ray and DVD movies, Super Audio CDs, regular CDs, and streaming media from my PC. It's crazy to think one console could provide so much entertainment, and it does each one extraordinarily well.

The PS3 is well built, and the test confirms that. It provides so much more versatility than the 360, and the build quality is far better too. They really shouldn't be compared to each other.

Good stuff, wouldnt want my PS3 in there, but its good to see it can take it. shame mine crashes when hosting games etc. although this may be the games fault.

I've read on a few forums that if you are buying the PS3 as a Blu-Ray DVD player it's a mistake as there is a 3-5 year lifespan to the laser and you'd be wasting it on the DVD's instead of the games. I don't think this has much validity but can someone comment on this for me?

I've got 120+ on Final Fantasy X, 180+ on Elder Scrolls IV, WELL over 250 on Elder Scrolls III, maybe 110 on Final Fantasy VII, I only have 50 on Final Fantasy XII, but i'm no where near done, my brother has 400 hours on Disgaea, so as once he gets that back to me I'll put a few hours on it (brotherly feud), and a god
