Killzone 2, February's mega release for Sony's Playstation 3 console is, according to some review sites, like that stunning blonde you dated in high school: absolutely gorgeous and perfect, until you tried to have a conversation with her, then it all fell apart.
According to Metacritic, the game is getting an average review rating of 91. But other sites have scored it far lower, in some cases as low as 7/10. The reason? Perceived lack of a storyline.
Absolute Games states that there are zero new, innovative ideas in Killzone 2, essentially blasting it for not having a deep storyline.
Edge had similar sentiments, noting that "without the ambiguities of the first game, a sense of humour or even an ounce of intrigue, its story stinks."
When you pick up an FPS, it is fairly safe to say that you are not looking for a deep, story-driven game and just want to blow things up for a bit.
Killzone 2 gives you this option in spades and is very easy to come to grips with in terms of control and fun.
In terms of storyline, it is explained to the player within the first 5 minutes of the game: to protect your home, you go and take the fight to the Helghast on their turf. Really, what else is there to know? |
