On the latest Kojima Productions podcast, the team sat down the Creative Producer on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Yuji Korekado, and found out new details that may or may not disappoint you. Korekado said regarding the game:
"Kojima stopped production because the game's development wasn't progressing very well. The team was then told that Platinum Games would be coming, they saw the game and said the same thing that Kojima said, that the game design is incomplete. They decided to complete the game design and develop the game. In the previous Rising, we had two main game concepts; stealth and action. Each concept was fun and exciting, but we could not combine them into a fun and exciting game effectively. The new Rising has one simple concept, cutting things feels good."
He continued, "Platinum Games is in charge of game design, Kojima Productions is in charge of story and cutscenes. Platinum Games are both speedy and dynamic, what I mean about speedy is that they are able to make decisions quickly. With dynamic I mean, in the VGA trailer you can see Raiden blocking Ray's giant arm that it uses as a sword, Raiden then picks Ray up and tosses it in the air. This kind of idea could not come from our studio. They think of ideas that will surprise the player, and of wild situations. Platinum Games overhauled the story and the setting. The game story is now set after MGS4, whereas the original concept took place between MGS2 and MGS4."
It is important to note that Kojima productions had written an entire script for this previous concept, and had to throw away almost the entire story in order to change it to match the game design.
The producer also confirmed that Zandatsu, the idea that was shown for the past two E3s, is no longer a main game concept. It still exists in the game, but is not the focus of the game. Yuji also said that they are developing the game with western audience in mind, and are even considering the option of not releasing the game in Japan, as long as it pleases the western audience. Suggests that the game will possibly release in the West first.
Finally Korekado mentioned that Kamiya is not the director of Rising, but the director will be announced in the future, and that this will be a brand new Metal Gear experience.
So, it looks like this is nothing like the original concept, which was shown to consumers. No stealth?? How can this even be called Metal Gear?! At least they've removed the "Solid" from the title.
