A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila: Complete Uncensored First Season

DVD Review

MTV

Paramount Home Entertainment

Released: April 15, 2008

A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila took to the airwaves on MTV last year and actually managed to perform quite well in terms of ratings. It did so well that there is already a second season in the works, as well as a spin-off series featuring one of the contestants. You may not want to admit it, as I know I don’t, but there is something very entertaining about these types of dating reality TV shows. A Shot at Love Tila Tequila is not perfect by any means, but if you are a fan of reality TV, it is hard to shut it off.

A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila features girls and guys trying to win the heart of bisexual Tila Tequila. Sixteen straight guys and sixteen lesbians attempt to win her heart. The strange thing is that when the girls and guys arrive for the show, they had no idea they were competing against each other.

The show is quite tasteless at times, but is also extremely intriguing thanks to the hand-picked characters. You have some extreme drama going on in each and every episode as a battle of the sexes picks up steam. You see people hook up, jealousy, ensue, etc. Everything a reality TV competition needs pretty much to equal success. With competitors such as Flava Flav, Brett Michaels, and others featuring similar shows, Tila Tequila manages to bring something completely different, and even more risqué than the rest.

The video quality has been presented in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio on the DVD format. It looks exactly as it did on television with solid colors, and a clear picture throughout.

The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo and pretty much relies on the front channels for the dialogue. It is clear and clean, but does little else.

The final disc in the DVD set features all of the extras. There are quite a few extras here for fans of the series to truly enjoy.

You get 35-minutes of deleted scenes from the show, as well as 53-minutes of extended footage.

Some of the extra footage comes from scenes including the car wash, strip club, foam party, spin the bottle, and others.

There are also previews for four other upcoming TV shows.

A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila managed to become quite an entertaining show. It does have its low points in certain episodes, but overall it did its job at attracting an audience on MTV, and continues to do so with a second season planned. Fans of the series will enjoy the extended scenes as well as deleted scenes, as there is plenty of content to warrant taking another shot with Tila Tequila.

Episodes: 8.0

A very entertaining reality TV shows with some hilarious moments, drama-filled moments, and more. Some of the characters such as the Italian guy are priceless at points.

Video: 7.5

The video transfer is in full-screen. The colors look solid, nothing special though.

Audio: 7.0

The audio is presented well on the front channels.

Extras: 8.0

There is plenty of extra footage here, a great amount considering how other reality TV shows are usually released in DVD sets. Fans will not be disappointed.

Final Score: 8.2
