The Big Gay Sketch Show: The Complete First Season DVD Review Logo Paramount Home Entertainment Release: April 30, 2008 The Big Gay Sketch Show comes from the basic cable channel Logo, and aimed to bring a whole new set-up to sketch comedy. Planned out in a similar form to the likes of Mad TV and Saturday Night Live, the entire first and second seasons of The Big Gay Sketch Show has been released on DVD in two box sets. The show as produced by Rosie O’Donnell and featured director Amanda Bearse. The show includes 8 comedians, who all bring their own unique flair to the action and do a great job of putting out some tremendous material. The Big Gay Sketch Show has its ups and downs to say the least. They take classic television programs and make them out to be aimed at the homosexual crowd. They also do thsi with political figures and others. The humor is certainly funny, but does not really push the envelope enough in the first season to be a true hit. The DVD set features six 22-minute episodes in the first season. They are all uncensored with no beeps or anything of that nature to block stuff it. The video transfer is very clean and presented in fullscreen, while the audio is put forth in a simple yet effective stereo mix. The show looks like TV-broadcast quality which should be no surprise to anyone. The first disc has the episodes, while the second disc features all of the extras. You get some behind-the-scenes looks at how the show was produced, as well as bloopers and such to take a look at. There are also three bonus sketches added in which are fun to view. The Big Gay Sketch Show: The Complete First Season is a mixed bag for the most part on DVD. Some of the sketches work well and are very funny, while others fall a bit short. The extras included in the DVD set are much appreciated for fans though. In the end, the show is hit or miss, but fans will not be disappointed with this set if they enjoyed it on TV. Episodes: 6.5 The episodes are hit or miss, with some being funny while others just fall flat. Video: 6.5 Just standard-quality TV, nothing extra, but it works. Audio: 7.0 The stereo mix presents the dialogue nicely. Extras: 7.5 It is nice to see fans of the series get some respectable extras, well done here. Final Score: 6.9
