Transformers Cybertron The Ultimate Collection DVD Review Paramount Home Entertainment Released: July 22, 2008
Transformers fans young and old can rejoice in the release of Transformers Cybertron: The Ultimate Collection on DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment. Though the animation of the show does seem a bit dated, there is plenty here for Transformers fans to enjoy.
The set spans 7 discs, and features 52 episodes in total, for over 1,100 minutes of action.
The 52 episodes feature a wide variety of stories, as well as dozens upon dozens of characters, both human and machine. The universe itself is being battled over, as the Autobots find their home, Cybertron, in danger.
They set out on a mission to find the four lost Cyber Planet Keys needed to be put into the Omega Lock, which will close up a black hole endangering their univser.
Transformers fans will see Optimus Prime (Garry Chalk) leading the Autobots on their missioni and war against the Decepticons, headed up by Megatron (David Kayne). To be quite honest, the battles and everything else here do come across as extremely formulatic.
You have your basic battles of good vs. evil, and you end up seeing the two sides going at it in each and every episode. On a plus note though, there is plenty of good to the set of episodes, as you get some fun animation, great voice work, and good lessons for the younger audience out there.
The video quality for this release is respectable considering the show is being transferred over from Cartoon Network. It is presented in 1.33:1 and features some very bright and vibrant colors. The only downside is that there is aliasing which some may notice.
The audio is presented in a Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo track, and does a nice job of putting forth all of the action in an impact-full manner, with solid explosions and other jolting noises. A true surround track could have really set an atmosphere fans would have loved though.
Unfortunately, the set has no extras at all, a disappointment for fans.
Transformers Cybertron: The Ultimate Collection features hours upon hours of action-packed entertainment, which the younger audience out there will absolutely love. If you are a Transformers fan, you will not be disappointed as there is tons of content here.
