Epic Games made the announcement today that Unreal Tournament 2007 has turned into Unreal Tournament 3 and is confirmed to not only headed to the Microsoft Xbox 360 as well as PC, but also the Sony PlayStation 3 console.

Midway made the revelation that Unreal Tournament 2007 would be receiving a name change being named Unreal Tournament 3 and was confirmed for both fo the juggernaut next-generation platforms as well as the PC for release in the second half of 2007.

The highly-anticipated shooter uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 which is the same engine which was used to power the gorgeous Gears of War.  This new engin should bring Epic’s landmark first-person shooter up to date with amazing life-like graphics as well as being packed in with the usual array of very futuristic weapons as well as a ton of new game modes.

The developer is promising some amazing new AI players and characters as well as a deeper single-player campaign, deeper than anything previously experienced in an Unreal game along with co-op online play which will be huge on the PS3.

PC gamers will also have the opportunity to use the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset to build their own levels, game types, mods, etc.

The release date for Unreal Tournament 3 is tentatively set at the second half of 2007 so expect a release date sometime around late summer early fall and expect a ton of new news on the game as its release gets closer by the day!
