Seeing a Sony PlayStation 3 game at the top of sales charts is something which Sony has not had the luxury of seeing since the system has launched. 

This has all changed though as Media Create’s record of the past week in game sales has finally come out in .  The top ten have been revealed and it should be no surprise that the new PlayStation 3 fighter Virtua Fighter 5 managed to take the top spot selling 48,346 units in its first week of release.

The fighter which was put out by Sega is the first time that Sony has managed to take the top spot away from any Nintendo DS or Nintendo Wii offering in quite some time and it is certainly going to sell quite a few more systems in that region.

Sony is banking on this game as it will also likely push the sales of some systems in North America when it launches next week as well since the fighting genre is an area which up until now the PlayStation 3 was sorely missing.
