Sony Computer Entertainment America along with Insomniac Games, the developer of Resistance: Fall of Man, made the announcement today that the PlayStation 3’s top-selling game would be getting an update this spring packed with new content for the online-interface of the game.

Two entirely new online gameplay modes are being added including Team Conversion and Assault Mode.

The first mode, Team Conversion, is the same set-up as the already established Conversion mode.  The only difference is now gamers will play a team.  Both teams will start off as humans and have one life on each side.  The second mode is Assault mode and has an objective where you have to beat down the defenses of your opponents in order to eventually take down and destroy the base.

The other key addition to the online play of the game is the spectator camera which will be added.  This will allow players to observe the action from a player’s point-of-view or free-roam across an entire battlefield to check out what is going on in every location.

Matchmaking is the game will also be enhanced as it will be faster and far more reliable than the existing set-up.

In May a map pack update will also be available worldwide which will give gamers the ability to purchase the downloadable new maps in-game.  Two entirely new maps have been created by Insomniac Games which are said to have “an entirely different feel” according to the press release today, than the rest of the game.

The first map will be based in Westmorland, with the second map in Camborn, England.  The story behind these new maps is an extension of the backstory of the game.

No details are released on pricing or anything of that nature at this point.
